The 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck on 12th May (China time) in Wenchuan County which is the home to the Wolong Nature Reserve, China's leading research and breeding base for endangered giant pandas. Wenchuan is 146km northwest of Chengdu, the capital of the south-western province of Sichuan.
There are four groups about 120 travelers organized by a Zhengzhou agent are trapped in the area at the moment, but no casualty involved. According to the National Tourism Bureau, all tour agents and travel operator national wide should stop operating tour for both FIT and groups to disaster area at once. And for travelers information, there should be no travel activities in the disaster area in the near future for their safety.
Although many other parts of China also reported tremors, the tourism industry has not been greatly affected excepting Sichuan Province.
